Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on April 23 proclaiming the week of May 20 through May 26, 2013 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

The designation is in honor of all team members of Nature Coast EMS.  

An emergency medical service is a vital public service and the members of the emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  

Bond denied: Pregnant mom accused of killing daughter

Inverness, Florida - The pregnant mother accused of slamming her daughter's head into a wall with such force that it left her with a fractured skull is not getting out of jail any time soon.

21-year-old Chelsea Huggett was dressed in a county jail outfit Friday morning, appearing in front of a judge to face a first degree murder and aggravated child abuse charge. Her bond was denied.

Mom's confession: Murdered "whining" toddler

Lecanto, Florida -- A Citrus County mother is behind bars after she reportedly confessed to murdering her toddler

"This is a brutal murder of a defenseless child of a 2-year-old and she could have sought help of numerous occasions and she failed to do that," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeffrey J. Dawsy.

Deputies were called to a home on April 26, where 2-year-old Aliyah Marie Branum was reportedly in distress. The toddler was taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
