Citrus High teacher makes top-five in Macy’s Teacher of the Year contest

 

Citrus County, Florida-- Out of over 180,000 teachers in the state, one of Citrus County's own has been chosen as a top-five finalist in the 2014 Macy’s/Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year contest!

Nancy Smith of Citrus High School received quite the surprise Thursday morning as the school's principal, students and Florida Department of Education and Macy's reps did a special "Teacher of the Year Shake Dance" around her and delivered the exciting news.

County: March named “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month”

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on March 12, 2013 proclaiming the month of March as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month” in Citrus County.  To accept the proclamation was Troy Davidson, a Key Training Center client and Neale Brennan, Key Center Foundation.

Beverly Hills, Florida-- During Opening Day for Central Citrus Little League last Saturday, County Grounds Maintenance workers were honored for all of their hard work at the local parks.

Lecanto, Florida -- If your New Year's resolution is to become more active or involved in your local community, UF/IFAS Citrus County Extension has the ideal solution for you.

Citrus County Extension is currently seeking volunteers to help enhance their Learning Landscape located behind the Extension office at 3650 West Sovereign Path in Lecanto.

Volunteer assistance is needed to maintain the landscape and horticultural learning center. Activities include planting, trimming, applying mulch and other functions related to the upkeep of the learning center.

County proclaims Dec. 11 "Dale McClellan - Farmer of the Year" Day

On Dec. 11, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation to Dale McClellan, owner of M & B Dairy at their regular meeting, proclaiming Dec. 11 as “Dale McClellan – Farmer of the Year” Day in Citrus County.

Dale McClellan has been named as the 2012 winner of the Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year. His State of the art, 700 cow dairy operation has become a point of pride in Citrus County. M & B Dairy is widely respected and has earned several local awards for its contributions to the economy of Citrus County.
