Inverness, Florida-- With tragic events such as the Aurora, CO movie theatre shooting, and the Newtown, CT elementary school shooting, it cannot be denied that any and all law enforcement, fire and rescue officials and emergency medical personnel need to be fully trained in an "active shooter", mass casualty scenario.

Citrus County, Florida-- Out of over 180,000 teachers in the state, one of Citrus County's own has been chosen as a top-five finalist in the 2014 Macy’s/Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year contest!

Nancy Smith of Citrus High School received quite the surprise Thursday morning as the school's principal, students and Florida Department of Education and Macy's reps did a special "Teacher of the Year Shake Dance" around her and delivered the exciting news.

Local students collect pet supplies for animal shelter

Citrus County, Florida-- As part of an ongoing effort of the International Baccalaureate Program at Lecanto High School, 11th grade students collected pet supplies for the Citrus County Animal Shelter. 

The International Baccalaureate Program is dedicated to student creativity, action, and service. 

Supplies will be delivered in three different installments throughout the month of March. 

Thank you to all the students who donated and helped collect all the pet supplies to deliver to the Animal Shelter.

Any household that has any non-perishables they would like to donate, you can give them your child and they can bring them to their teacher.
